We have just received a grant from Sport England! We are very grateful for the £4,844, which will go towards delivering a sports programme throughout the next year. The sports programme will have a dedicated sports support worker, who will head up physical activities with the group. These include: Corporate Gym membership with Studio Red (in Shirley over Sainsburys in Redcar Street). We will need 6-8 people minimum to sign up with us to join the gym. It will cost £12.00 a month only and you can go as often as you wish. You do have to sign up with Creative Options as a member, and make sure you pay your monthly subscription. Please contact us as soon as possible if you are interested in joining this scheme Swimming sessions each week (Shirley Pool in Randolph Street). Swimming each week, subsidised on a fortnightly basis. Only costs £2.00 per session after subsidy (originally £4.40). Badminton once a month (usually at St. Mary's Sports Hall). Costing only £1.00 each to participate. Horse-riding lessons once a month (Brockenhurst Trekking Centre). Once a month. Maximum of 3 persons. Costs £10.00 after subsidy (originally £20.00). £5.00 non-returnable deposit on booking. Walks in places of interest. Driving out to places of interest i.e. the New Forest and going for walks. Contribution towards fuel only - bring a drink and a snack or money to purchase. From April Onwards: Sailing with 'Sailability' weekly on Monday evenings 6:00 - 7:00 PM or 7:30 - 8:30 PM. The cost is £4.00 per person after subsidy (£8.00 originally). Up to 6 persons may attend. Must book by Monday morning at the latest by contacting leader. Canoeing on a Saturday with 'Paddleability' (Woodmill Activity Centre). Costs £1.50 each after subsidy (originally £3.00). 11:00 AM - 12 noon. Contact leader if interested. Canoeing Courses (Woodmill Activity Centre). Throughout the next year we will have two introductory canoeing courses for up to 10 persons. The course costs £89, but after the 50% subsidy, the final cost is £4.50 per person. Rock-climbing introductory courses (Boulder Shack in Bevois Valley). Two introductory courses in rock-climbing and bouldering will be held in the next year. Up to 10 persons may attend. Cost depends on how many attend. Course costs £89.00 for up to 10 persons, but with the 50% subsidy, the final cost comes to £4.50 each. We will also have a rope-handling course for our members who have already attended the introductory course last year. Archery (Woodmill Activities Centre). Throughout the next year there will be two archery courses held. Other activities include the opportunity to attend free classes at body, mind, soul on a Tuesday evening, aqua-fit classes at local pools, ten-pin bowling, bowls etc., according to interest shown. Julie is also interested in getting groups together to do outdoor pursuits, camping etc., in the summer.
