The green gym is a project run by TCV (The Conservation Volunteers). They have recently started a project supported by Southampton Healthy Living. The Green Gym is all about improving physical and mental wellbeing.
Green Gym is at two locations in Southampton weekly on Mondays at Jurds Lake in Woolston, and on Wednesdays at Nursling Plantation in Lordshill. Sessions run from 11am-2pm, with a refreshment break. The sessions are an opportunity for people to get more active in an outdoors, while carrying out valuable conservation work to improve the local environment. They are run in a friendly, social way, with plenty of opportunity for participants to get to know new people, and also to work at their own pace. Sessions are free of charge, and tea, coffee and a snack is provided, along with tools, equipment and gloves are provided. Participants should wear outdoor or old clothing suitable for the weather, and sturdy footwear. They may also be able to lend out boots if required. People with additional support needs are welcome to attend with a carer. They are looking for more people to take part in the project. Their web pages have more information about the sessions and about Green Gym in general. The new group for 16-24 year olds starts Thursday 1st November, 6pm until 8pm. It takes place at Board in the City on Onslow road. See the flyer below for more details.
